Useful Websites

For incoming students, the amount of information you get can be quite overwhelming. This collection of websites helps you find the information you need on your own and aims at guiding you through your stay in Marburg.

Marvin

Marvin is the campus-management site of the entire Philipps-University Marburg. The site is available in German and English, you can switch the language by clicking on the button in the lower right corner. Our local students can use this platform to search for courses, register for classes, and see their grades and credit. For international students only the first part is possible, so far. To see the full course catalogue, you can navigate to

> Studies offered > Show university course catalogue

You always see the current term first, if you want to take a look at past semester, for example to see which courses might be offered again in the following semester, you can choose the term you are interested in from the drop-down menu at the top.

The course catalogue is divided into the different departments. Some departments offer specific courses for international students, which are then often offered in English. For more information about how to find courses offered by the English department, have a look at the section course choice.

ILIAS

ILIAS is the digital learning management site of the Philipps-University Marburg. To log in, you need your username and password that is issued to you by the HRZ. You can change the language by clicking on the circle with your initals in it in the top right courner and go to > Einstellungen > Sprache.

The website is a platform which most instructors use to upload their course materials (including readings and slides), offer wikis, and where you can book appointments. Often, you will get a link to the seminar's ILIAS before or during the first session. The ILIAS pages of courses are sometimes secured with a password which you will also receive from your instructor. If you are part of a course in ILIAS, you can find that course by navigating the left side of the site

> Desktop > My Courses and Groups

There is also an ILIAS group for all incoming exchange students, so feel free to join!

Webmail

The Philipps-University Marburg has their own webmail-service, to which you can log in with your username and password that is issued to you by the HRZ. Always use this e-mail address to communicate with your instructors, the international office, and the departmental coordinators. Make sure to check your mail regularly as all important communication will happen there. When writing an e-mail, make sure to follow the proper e-mail etiquette.

Language Center

If you want to improve your German or learn a different language, have a look at the courses that are offered by the language center. They are free of charge for international students and the credit that you obtain by taking them counts towards your ECTS points. The languages you can currently learn are: Chinese, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Russian, and Spanish. Note that most language courses require you to do a placement test beforehand.

HRZ

The HRZ, which is short for Hochschulrechenzentrum, is the university computer center. They can help you with any technical problems you might have, such as issuing your account, problems with the university's WiFi, printing, and more.
