Centre for Conflict Studies welcomes “Youth Delegates for Tolerance and Democracy” from Kyrgyzstan

On Tuesday, 25th of June, the Centre for Conflict Studies is welcoming a group of 30 young adults from Kyrgyzstan as part of the group’s study trip to the cities of Frankfurt and Marburg. The trip is organized by the UK-based international NGO Saferworld within the EU-funded project “Youth Delegates for Tolerance and Democracy”. Between 23rd and 27th of June 2019, 20 men and women from southern Kyrgyzstan who take responsibility and an active social role in their hometowns, accompanied by organisers and youth policy decision makers, are intended to meet with representatives of the Marburg mayoral administration, the City and District Children and Youth parliament and members of social initiatives and associations. They will thus gain insights into the topics of youth participation in decision-making processes, tolerance promotion, peacebuilding and conflict resolution in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural society. By getting to know the city and the various actors that help shape its social life, participants will have the possibility to exchange experience and get to know best practices, which they can adopt into their own contexts.

The interaction with the Centre for Conflict Studies begins with a “Research Showcase” event, during which staff from the Centre and cooperating institutions will present their research projects in the areas of youth, multi-cultural and multilingual dynamics and answer questions from participants. Participants will further have the possibility to reflect on the insights provided by the research and to develop ideas for their own context, which they will then present and discuss in the plenary. Presentations are held by Miriam Tekath (CCS), Iryna Lysenko (Herder Institute for Historical Research on East Central Europe), Werner Distler and Philipp Lottholz (both CCS and Collaborative Research Centre “Dynamics of Security”).

In the second half of the day, participants will meet students from the Centre for Conflict Studies and other institutes in the university to exchange their experiences and ideas from their work on fostering peaceful social relations and constructive dialogue and political participation in their communities. Students are encouraged to contribute presentations and stories on initiatives, research projects and other actions that they are undertaking as part of their studies or on the side.

Participation in both events is open to all, but please send a brief registration note to the contact below.

Event locations:

Research Showcase: 9.30-12.00 am; Kleiner Hörsaal Geographie 00/0040,      Deutschhausstr. 12
