In 2010, Werner Distler started at the Center as research fellow in the DFG research project “Interpretative Authority in Post-Conflict Societies”, focusing on the case of Kosovo. In 2014, he finished his dissertation on “Intervention as a Social Practice / Intervention als Soziale Praxis” on the everyday interactions and perceptions of police officers in the UN Mission in Kosovo. Since April 2014, he worked as postdoc research fellow at the DFG Collaborative Research Center SFB/TRR 138 “Dynamics of Security” in the Project B05 of Prof. Dr. Thorsten Bonacker, on the role of security in statebuilding under trusteeship and after conflict, on the cases of Kosovo, Timor-Leste, and Papua New Guinea.

In recent years, he additionally focused on knowledge and peacebuilding in the context of Mali military mandates in the German Parliament and on archives from UN missions in two third-party funded projects. His main areas of interest have been Critical Security Studies, theories and practice of interventions and statebuilding / stateformation, the political economy of (post-)conflict & peace economies, and knowledge in global governance.

After many years with us, Dr. Werner Distler has started his new position as Assistant Professor for Globalisation Studies & Humanitarian Action at the University of Groningen this September.

We wish him all the best for his future!
