This two-day workshop will cover the basics of project management in the specific context of scientific research. You will learn how to realistically calculate the time required for the project, effectively budget resources and other capacities, as well as how to create goal-oriented schedules and deadlines to effectively monitor the progress of your project.

Objectives

  • Preconditions and success factors for research projects.
  • Conception, planning, and execution of PhD and other projects.
  • Setting project goals and deriving realistic working packages.
  • Managing priorities, organizing time and workload.
  • Dealing with project risks and crises.
  • Tasks and responsibilities of project leadership.
  • Managing communication and “the human factor”.

Intended Learning Outcome

  • You have an overview of all relevant fields of project management (input).
  • You know how to define goals, set priorities, and manage your resources (individual and group work).
  • You know how to use relevant project planning tools (individual work).
  • You have developed a roadmap for your own research project (individual work, peer exchange).
  • You are able to transfer the workshop’s contents to daily academic life (discussion, transfer exercises).

Requirements

Please note that this is not an English language course. Proficiency in English at the B2 level of competency is required.

Registration is binding. In case of non-appearance without reason or cancellation twelve days beforehand, the full registration fee has to be payed.
