For many young scientists, writing about their research is often the hardest part of their work. Their texts frequently suffer from obscure language, poor structure, and unclear reasoning so that the resulting texts seem unconvincing. However, to be successful and reach their target audience, academics need to be clear and to the point. The methods and instruments of scientific writing to do so can be learned. Applying a few select techniques for structuring and plausible argumentation makes it possible to convey even complex contents clearly and comprehensibly.
This workshop will highlight the first phase of academic writing: from idea to text. It will introduce the participants to creative techniques for deciding on the wording of the topic that they want to write about. They will engage in developing a strategy of how to convey their topic – from structure to argumentation. Different types and styles of texts will be discussed.
