Science Communication – Presenting Science: How to Get Your Message Through – Online course

In this workshop you will train how to communicate your science to an audience outside your community.

Veranstaltungsdaten

28. Juni 2021 09:00 – 28. Juni 2021 15:30

Online

The workshop is designed to help early career scientists cut a fine figure in public presentations, conference attendances, walk-throughs, peer reviews, and public outreach activities: with classic lecture as well as elements of elevator pitch, science slam, and famelab. How much can I say in how much time? How do I get into my topic ideally, how deep do I dig into the details and what message do I give to the audience? What is a kitchen call and how do I use it? What belongs on presentation "slides" and how do I design them optimally? What do I need to consider when timing what I say and what I show? Which technical terms are suitable for which audience?

Intended Learning Outcomes

In the course, you will practice how to keep the interest of the interaction group when presenting your scientific content and how to identify and communicate your very core messages.

Didactic Methods

Lecture, group work, digital interaction, practice and feedback

In the course of the workshop, you will practice with your own presentation sequences. If possible, you should bring presentations on your own research topic that you have already shown at a conference or lecture and from which sequences can serve as practice material.

To participate in the online course, you need a PC/laptop with a current browser (recommended: Chrome or Firefox) as well as a headset (or speakers and a microphone), possibly a webcam, and a stable Internet connection.
