Teaching and learning – FAQs for students

Information on certificates, recognition issues, BAföG (student financial aid) and grades
I need proof of my achievements (grades). What options are there?
You can download a Transcript of Records (ToR) via MARVIN (Login > My degree program > Services). Exception: Students in the teacher track (Lehramtsstudierende) can obtain these from Christian Hiebel.
The ToR is a grade overview (PDF) and shows all modules already passed. It can also be issued in English.
You can download a detailed overview of your achievements via MARVIN (Login > My degree program > Achievements). Exception: Students in the teacher track (Lehramtsstudierende) can obtain these from Christian Hiebel.
The detailed achievement overview is like the ToR but also contains information on registered and failed examinations. Sometimes authorities specifically want to see this certificate.
You can request a certificate of the current average grade by sending an e-mail to Ms. Daum (BA) or Mr. Trofimov (MA/LA) at the Examinations Office.
This shows your current average grade in the grading system consisting of 1–15 grade points. This document contains tables for converting these to decimal grades. Decimal grades are usually required for applications to other universities for a master’s degree if the bachelor’s degree has not yet been fully completed at the time of application.
Information on the certificate, diploma supplement and certificates can be obtained from the Examinations Office (> Graduation phase/certificate).
Only curricular achievements can be shown on the certificate documents.I need a certificate for a mandatory internship. How do I obtain this?
Our internship advisory service (GER) will be happy to help you.
Who can help me with recognition of grades or coursework, placement in a higher semester or the Learning Agreement?
You can find further information on these matters in our student advisory overview.
Where can I get a signature/information that the BAföG (student financial aid) office requires?
Our BAföG (student financial aid) officers (GER) will be happy to help you.
Please note: For a combined bachelor’s degree, the BAföG representative of the major subject issues the certificate of achievement for the entire degree program (incl. minors and MarSkills). The persons responsible for the minors can only provide “administrative assistance” if required, should the person responsible from the major (HF) have any queries.
If the person in charge of Department 03 is unavailable due to illness or vacation and your request is urgent, please contact the General Student Advisory Service, where you will be given the name of an authorized person for this matter.
Where can I get a certificate of enrolment?
You can access these yourself via MARVIN as soon as you have logged in.
Who do I have to submit my medical certificate to?
See FAQs section “Illness, hardship, etc.”
My grade is not yet in Marvin. What's the problem?
Your work may not yet have been corrected. Please give the examiners sufficient time before you follow up. If you need your grades to be entered quickly, please ask if the correction could be brought forward.
Did you fail to submit the sample cover sheet correctly filled out with the examination grade, so that your grade cannot be assigned? In this case, you should submit the missing information (especially the examination number) to the main office or the examiner.
What do the entries in MARVIN mean? When can I take part in a retake (WH) examination?
“+” = passed
“-” = not passed
(for ungraded examinations/compulsory coursework)“5 to 15” = grade points for graded examinations passed.
Passed examinations cannot be retaken. The registered grade is valid.“0 to 4” = failed examination = a failed attempt is entered but it is possible to retake the examination in the same semester*.
-> Registration required by the deadline!“AT” = withdrawal with a certificate
= no failed attempt is entered and there is the possibility of retaking the examination in the same semester*.
-> Registration required by the deadline!“RAN” = Recognized withdrawal
= no failed attempt is recorded but it is NOT possible to retake the examination in the same semester.“N.A.” = You can only retake (WH) the examination the following semester* (standard period of study may be delayed). (failed attempt)
* If retake attempts are still available.
If there is a number in the “penalty points” column, you could ignore this if you started your degree program after 2010; these points will “disappear” as soon as you have completed the module.
