Judith Klatt
In the Biogeochemistry lab at the Microcosm Earth Center, we aim at understanding microbially driven element cycling in Earth’s present and past humid realm by studying a wide range of ecosystems and microbial key players. Our research questions and approaches are highly diverse, and we bring together an interdisciplinary perspective (chemical, geological, and biological), involving research ranging from molecular to micro-environmental to ecosystem scales. In the M4C-initiative, we aim at creating a picture of how interactions between microbes and their environment shape major biogeochemical outcomes, with a special focus on the role of CO2-fixing photosynthetic microorganisms throughout Earth’s history.
