Workstation

The University Computer Center offers employees an IT workstation in cooperation with the local IT-Administrationsn of Departments and Institutions. There are many advantages to using this service:

Hardware selection
- Computers, monitors, and laptops can be selected within the framework agreements.
- Procurement and commissioning are carried out by the respective IT administrations of the department or institution.
Software and licenses
- The HRZ offers a range of applications and information on proper licensing and procurement.
- Procurement is carried out in consultation with the respective IT administrations of the department or institution
Automatic installations and software maintenance (opsi)
- The HRZ provides automated installations and permanent software updates for workstation computers via opsi.
- Windows or Linux can be installed as the operating system.
- A basic set of software is always provided directly.
- Employees can install additional software themselves via the opsi kiosk.
- Many software applications can be installed on request.
- Use of this service is coordinated with the respective IT administrations of the department or institution.
Server drives and data backup
- When you log in to your work computer with your AD account, your personal network drive and group drives are automatically available.
- The drives are located on HRZ servers and are backed up regularly.
- You can restore files from previous versions yourself.
Virus Protection
- Sophos Anti-Virus software is preinstalled on every Windows workstation.
Printing
- When you log in to your work computer with your AD account, the shared network printers are automatically available.
  You can also print on the central copiers.
Driver and firmware updates
- Under Linux, drivers are regularly updated via opsi.
- New drivers are automatically installed via Windows Update. In addition, the system tools “Lenovo Commercial Vantage” and “Dell Command Update” are used.

Good to know

The HRZ uses the open source software “Open PC Server Integration” (opsi) from uib for operating system installation and software distribution.
