Monitoring in trial against Arid U.
Since August 31, 2011, law students from Marburg have been observing the criminal trial against Arid U. The 21-year-old Kosovar-Serbian national was accused of having killed two members of the U.S. armed forces on the afternoon of March 2, 2011, and having attempted to kill three other soldiers. The charges against Arid U. were therefore two counts of murder and three counts of attempted murder, one of which was in conjunction with serious bodily harm and another in conjunction with dangerous bodily harm (§§ 211, 223(1), 224(1) nos. 2 and 5, 226(1) no. 1, 18, 22; 23, 52, 53 German Criminal Code).
The trial against Arid U. was, alongside the trial of Onesphore R. from Rwanda, the second criminal case observed by the student trial monitors from Marburg. The procedural and substantive issues arising during the trial were not only documented but also examined in depth in various university courses.
The reports published on these pages provide only an overview of the trial proceedings. While the project teams produce daily reports that almost fully capture the course of the trial, these can only be made available after the trial concludes.
