Trial at the OLG Frankfurt against Malik F. (2018)
On March 16, 2018, the main trial against Malik F. began at the Higher Regional Court (OLG) Frankfurt on charges of supporting a foreign terrorist organization, preparing a serious state-endangering violent act, incitement to hatred, and attempted coercion.
The defendant was accused of having called on the residents of the city of Idlib in Syria via a Facebook post to participate in the armed struggle of the terrorist organization “Islamic State.” Furthermore, he had obtained instructions for building a silencer for long guns as well as for the production of explosives and their use in fragmentation and car bombs. He was also said to have disparaged the killed critic Nahed Hattar of the “Islamic State” in a Facebook comment. Regarding the last charge, he allegedly threatened a fellow detainee with death while in pre-trial detention after an attempt to recruit the detainee for committing an attack had failed.
The defendant was convicted for soliciting supporters for the foreign terrorist organization “Islamic State” (“IS”) and for approval of criminal acts. In all other charges, there were either partial dismissals or acquittals. The exact reasoning is recorded in the reports.
The proceedings were fully documented by our monitors. The anonymized weekly reports will follow.
