Trial against Manmohan S. and Kanwal Jit K. (2019)
On November 21, 2019, the main hearing against Manmohan S. and Kanwal Jit K. began at the Higher Regional Court (OLG) Frankfurt on suspicion of espionage activities for the Indian intelligence service. Manmohan S. was accused of having agreed in 2015 to provide information to an employee of the Indian intelligence service about the opposition Sikh scene and the Kashmir movement in Germany, as well as their members. In 2017, his wife Kanwal Jit K. allegedly joined this intelligence connection.
During this period, information was reportedly provided on 11 occasions (involving Manmohan S.) and two occasions (involving Kanwal Jit K.) in exchange for monthly payments of €200 to the Indian intelligence service.
Manmohan S. was sentenced to one year and six months probation for espionage activities. Kanwal Jit K. was fined 180 daily rates for aiding espionage activities.
