Monitoring at the trial against Abdullah W. et al.
In June 2015, proceedings began against six German citizens and alleged members of the organization Al-Shabab. The charges were as follows: Abdullah W., Abulsalam W., Abdiwahid W., Steven N., and Mounir T. were accused of participating as members of the foreign terrorist organization Harakat al-Shabab al-Mujahidin (Al-Shabab) in Somalia from January 2013 to August 2014, of preparing serious acts of violence endangering the state, and of committing offenses under §§ 129a, 129b of the German Criminal Code (StGB). Additionally, Abdiwahid W. and Mounir T. were alleged to have conspired to participate in the foreign terrorist organization “Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).” The defendant Omar Ahmed D. was accused of establishing contacts with Al-Shabab with the intent to commit a serious act of violence endangering the state and of attempting to participate in this organization (§ 89a para. 2 StGB in conjunction with §§ 129a, 129b StGB).
