Trial at the OLG Frankfurt against Abduqaadir A.
On October 23, 2018, the main trial against Abduqaadir A. began at the OLG Frankfurt, charged with attempted murder, aiding and abetting murder, and membership in the foreign terrorist organization “Al-Shabab.” The defendant is alleged to have joined Al-Shabab in 2012 and, as a teenager, assisted other Al-Shabab fighters in a killing at a mosque and, at times, personally fired at individuals in a café with intent to kill.
On January 17, 2019, the defendant was acquitted on all charges. The court based its judgment on the fact that the alleged acts could not be proven. The defendant repeatedly contradicted himself in his statements, and only when he distanced himself from the acts was he able to provide a consistent account, admitting that he had fabricated self-incriminating statements in order to obtain asylum.
