Trial at the OLG Frankfurt against Duygu D. (2025)

The defendant Duygu D. is accused of having joined the so-called “Islamic State” (IS) in 2015.
To this end, the defendant is said to have traveled to Syria in March 2015, where she married an IS fighter under Islamic rites. While her “husband” reportedly performed guard duties and participated in combat operations, the defendant is alleged to have taken care of their household and the children born in 2016 and 2018.

The defendant is also alleged to have attended IS Koran courses and raised her children according to the ideology of the organization. In March 2019, she was captured by Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) and placed in the Al Hol camp. There, she allegedly attempted to discipline other female detainees whom she considered “infidels” and tried to convert them to a radical interpretation of Islam.

On March 30, 2022, the defendant was repatriated to Germany along with her children.

The trial is being observed by Trial Monitoring observers.
Weekly reports will be published once the verdict becomes legally binding.
