Trial at the OLG Frankfurt against Mustapha B. (2019)
In the criminal proceedings against Mustapha B., the State Security Senate of the Higher Regional Court of Frankfurt am Main opened the main trial on October 25, 2019. According to the indictment by the Public Prosecutor General’s Office, the defendant had joined the foreign terrorist organization “Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant” (ISIL) in Syria as a young adult from July 2013 to November 2013 with the aim of threatening Western states and committing war crimes (§§ 8, 9, 10 VStGB), murder (§ 211 StGB), unlawful detention (§§ 239a et seq. StGB), and bomb attacks (§ 308 (1-4) StGB) (§§ 129a (1) no. 1, 2, (2) no. 2, 129b (1) StGB, 1, 105 JGG).
Mustapha B. willingly integrated himself into the organization, received combat training, and was prepared to fight. According to the indictment, it remains unclear whether he actually participated in combat.
In May 2020, Mustapha B. was sentenced to a juvenile sentence of one year and three months for supporting the foreign terrorist organization (“IS”).
