Monitoring in trial against Özkan C.

On March 30, 2017, the criminal trial against Özkan C. began, which was continuously observed by participants of the Trial Monitoring Programme.

According to the indictment, Özkan C. committed offenses in Syria between June 2013 and November 2013, including three counts of murder (§ 211 StGB), membership in a terrorist organization, and preparation of a serious state-endangering act of violence (§§ 129a, 129b StGB in conjunction with § 52 StGB).

At least since 2009, Özkan C. had been involved in the Islamist Salafist scene in the Rhine-Main area and traveled to Syria in June 2013 with his wife, friends, and acquaintances. By July 2013 at the latest, he allegedly became a member of the terrorist organization "Junud al-Sham," and in November 2013, he underwent fighter training and practiced handling weapons.
