Diversity of Law

Conference of the Legal Sociology Section of the German Sociological Association and the International Research and Documentation Center for War Crimes Trials (ICWC) at Philipps University Marburg from December 12 to December 13, 2024.

The debates around law are diverse: the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine, the situation in the Middle East following the Hamas attack on Israel, the ongoing discussions about flight and migration, the coup plans of the Reichsbürger movement around Prince Reuß, the ban on gender-inclusive language in public institutions passed in Bavaria, or the transition to climate neutrality exemplified by the Heating Act all demonstrate how precarious, contested, politically and socially relevant—and, in the sense of Eugen Ehrlich, “living”—law can be.

In view of the wide range of topics in legal sociology, as well as the variety of theoretical and methodological approaches, the board of the Legal Sociology Section invites participants to an open conference from December 12 to 13 at Philipps University Marburg. The conference provides a theory-, method-, and topic-independent forum to present current projects, raise fundamental questions for debate, and engage in discussion with each other.

The conference will take place at the Musizierhaus of Philipps University Marburg, located in the Old Botanical Garden.
