Selection Process and Online Application

1. Documents to be Submitted

The following documents and supporting materials are required to participate in the selection process:

  • Application for Admission (online application via the online application portal)
  • The first undergraduate degree with final grade
  • The Transcript of Records to verify the coursework completed to date
  • Course Catalog for the Bachelor's Program
  • Certificate of professional recognition(in German only) of the degree program by the university or, if applicable, by the state health authority
  • The completed self-declaration regarding statistics modules as well as modules for the experimental psychology or empirical psychology practicum (please select the appropriate form: Self-Declaration for German Applicants(in German only) oder Self-Declaration for International Applicants(in German only)
  • Proof of English proficiency at Level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages of the Council of Europe

Applications that are incomplete or not submitted in the proper form or by the deadline will not be considered in the selection process.

2. Selection process

The selection decision among the applicants in the selection process is based on the personal merit points awarded for the selection criteria. 

The following criteria are taken into account when compiling the ranking list as part of the selection process:

a) Final grade
If the final grade is not yet available, a submitted, calculated grade point average based on at least 80% of the credits required for the bachelor’s degree.

b) Subject-specific aptitude
A maximum of 100 points (total points) can be achieved. The following formula is used to calculate the total score: 
Total points = points for final or average grade (max. 60) + points for subject-specific aptitude (max. 40).

1. Grading for the final grade or grade point average

The grade of the degree required for admission to the master’s program is converted into points according to the following table. The information is based on the grading scale specified in Section 28, General Provisions, of Philipps University of Marburg. For degrees from other institutions, the decimal grade reported by the institution applies. No conversion to the Marburg grading system is performed. Foreign grades must be converted to German grades in accordance with the guidelines of the KMK.

2. Scoring for subject-specific aptitude

Points for subject-specific aptitude are awarded as follows:

a) in accordance with the following table for demonstrating proficiency in statistics and applied data analysis (max. 30 points):

b) for proof of completion of coursework totaling at least 15 ECTS credits for professional internships as part of the bachelor’s program (10 points):

Only modules that have already been recognized at the time of application and are listed as such on the Transcript of Records may be counted. If the professional internship(s) required as part of the bachelor’s program have not yet been completed and indicated on the Transcript of Records by the time of application, proof must be provided in the form of a certificate from the university or the internship provider stating that the professional internships will be completed by the start of the master’s program in Psychology: Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy in the respective winter semester. For the certificate the template provided by the Department of Psychology(in German only) at Philipps University of Marburg must be used. The following information must be clearly stated: Last name, first name, and date of birth of the applicant; confirmation that the professional internship(s) will be completed by September 30 of the year of application at the latest; the scope of the coursework in the professional internship module(s) in ECTS credits; as well as the location, date, signature, and name/stamp of the issuing institution.

To determine the ranking, the scores for the final grade or grade point average (max. 60 points) and for subject-specific aptitude (max. 40 points) are added together (max. 100 points) for all applicants. In the event of a tie, the decision is made by lot in accordance with § 16(2) HHZV.
