Contents

History studies human reality from the angle of the change over time. In the major subject “History", you will acquire the ability to perceive this change and will hone critical tools for identifying, analysing and evaluating it. In the course of your studies, you will deal with developments of the past and will be able to explain processes and make cross-cultural comparisons. You will develop a historical-critical perception. Depending on the issue at hand, you will apply various methods that will make direct access to past reality and a critical examination of the opinions of researchers possible. Overall, students who study history will acquire a unique intellectual tool kit. Students will improve their ability to think in a differentiated manner and will thus receive an interdisciplinary education that provides a variety of benefits for the professional world as well as for the state and society.

Due to their historical expertise, graduates will have access to career options in the following areas, for example

academia (universities, research institutions)
education (adult education, continuing education)
the museum and exhibition sector
the media, public relations (journalism), the publishing sector incl. e-publishing
the library sector, archiving and public administration (upper grade of the civil service)
organisational, consulting and management work at international institutions and organisations (political parties, associations, etc.) and in the government administration, cultural and business sectors

Furthermore, it is also possible to be admitted to a “Master of Arts (M.A.)” programme after completing the “History” course.
