Call for Papers: "What is coalition? Reflections on the conditions of alliance formation with Judith Butler’s work", 15.05.2012, Geneva University - Deadline 15.02.2012

• This one-day conference aims to reflect – historically, sociologically, philosophically – on the conditions of possibility, on the objects, means and purposes of alliance formation – between minorities, with the State, political parties, and other public actors, or between disciplines, or even across species (e.g. animal-human), etc. –, of political transformation, and thus of a collective agency, in both domestic and international contexts, through the concrete and generic question of “What is coalition?” – with special interest for the ways in which critical perspectives inspired from feminist and queer theory can be made into productive tools to theorize the political at various levels, at different times and locations, but also to intervene and do better democratic work. We encourage submissions from all research fields that present original material and engage, with creativity and precision, with both the theoretical and practical dimensions of the conference question with insights from – rather than directly on – Butler’s “political theory.”

• This conference will explore masculinity as an idea or a concept that operates across, or at least in relation to, a distance/di erence that may or may not be bridgeable: between the systemic and the corporeal, the abstract and the concrete. Thus, this conference will not only encourage scholarly movement in a direction that both builds on recent work in the eld of masculinity studies and moves past it toward more comparative kinds of analysis, but it will also explore the relations between di erent abstract and corporeal, metaphorical and metonymical manifestations of masculinity.

• In den Debatten um qualitative Forschung ist eine wachsende Bereitschaft zu bemerken, die eigenen theoretischen Ansprüche reflexiv zu wenden: Wissensproduktion wird zunehmend als ein Prozess anerkannt, in dessen Verlauf Akteure nicht primär feststehenden Regeln folgen, sondern immer wieder neu zahlreiche methodische Entscheidungen treffen (müssen), die wiederum starke Implikationen für das produzierte Wissen haben. Manches wird sichtbar (und artikulierbar), anderes nicht.
• In diesem Sinn lässt sich beispielhaft fragen:Wie repräsentieren postkoloniale Theoretiker_innen die Stimmen ihrer Beforschten? Wie gehen (nicht nur) feministische Forscher_innen mit der konstitutiven Machtasymmetrie in der Forschungsbeziehung um?

• Während Pippi Langstrumpf ihre Abenteuer ohne elterliche Überwachung meistern konnte und Alit Mitgutschs Wimmelbücher von der Abwesenheit von Erziehungsverantwortlichen gekennzeichnet waren, sind die ProtagonistInnen der aktuellen Vampirliteratur friedliebende Familienmenschen und bilden die neueren Wimmelbücher vor allem familiale Kontexte ab. Aber ist das Familienbild in der Kinderund Jugendliteratur tatsächlich einem reaktionären Wandel unterworfen? Oder spiegeln die vielfältigen Bilder von Familie im Kinderbuch lediglich die Diversität aktueller gesellschaftlicher Familienentwürfe wider, die eben auch verstärkt Patchworkfamilien und Wahlverwandtschaften wie die der Cullens in Twilight einschließen?

Call for Papers: "Porno-graphics and porno-tactics: desire, affect and representation in pornography", Re-public, online journal, Deadline 28.02.2012

• In this issue, we propose to reflect on pornography from the point of view both of the ‘politics of representation’ which it may apply, subvert, reproduce and perform, and also of its ‘affective and libidinal’ dimension. We do not claim the euphoric potentiality of pornography as necessarily subversive, but we open to the possibilities of re-writing (in textual, contextual, intertextual) on/about it through different graphic and tactical/tactile inscriptions.

• We solicit contributions from academics, artists, activists and practitioners (in whatever combination). Articles (in English, Greek, French, Spanish, Italian) should not exceed 1500-2000 words in length.

Call for Papers: "E<3Motion - Intimität in Medienkulturen", Tagung der Abteilung für Soziologie und Kulturwissenschaft an der Universität Salzburg, 7.06-8.06.2012 - Deadline 29.02.2012

• Intime Beziehungen zeichnen sich gegenüber anderen Beziehungstypen vor allem durch ein intensi-ves Erleben oder eine innere Bewegung aus, die nach der traditionellen Vorstellung gerade auf räum-licher Nähe von Akteuren und unmittelbaren face-to-face Kontakten basieren. In der neuen Medien-kommunikation entfallen (zunächst) diese Voraussetzungen, was in Bezug auf intime Beziehungen interessante Fragen in mikro- und makrosoziologischer Perspektive aufwirft: Gibt es Erleben von Intimität in räumlicher Distanzkommunikation oder stellt sich Intimität im virtuellen Raum sogar sub-jektiv „schneller“ und „besser“ ein?
  

• Neben theoretischen Beiträgen zu Strukturen, Praktiken und Vorstellungen über intime Beziehungen in Abhängigkeit von Medienkommunikation soll die Tagung vor allem empirischen Untersuchungen zur Intimität in Medienkulturen ein Forum bieten.

• In dem geplanten Band soll es Aushandlungsprozesse um den/die Stellvertreter_in gehen, u.a. die Frage, wer als Stellvertreter_in fungieren bzw. vertreten kann. Dies soll die Diskussion auf mögliche soziale und Geschlechterdifferenzen ebenso wie auf die keineswegs feststehenden Grenzen zwischen menschlichen und nicht-menschlichen Akteuren öffnen.

• Ziel der Tagung ist es nicht, den dominanten Diskurs des verletzungsmächtigen Mannes durch einen Gegendiskurs seiner Verletzungsoffenheit zu ersetzen. Vielmehr wird es Aufgabe sein, das Zusammenspiel von Verletzungsmacht und -offenheit bei der Konstruktion von Männlichkeit genauer zu betrachten.

• Gewünscht sind Beiträge, die den Stellenwert, der dem Zusammenspiel von Verletzungsmacht und –offenheit für die Konstruktion von Männlichkeit zukommt, aus soziologischer, psychologischer, geschichts-, literatur- und kulturwissenschaftlicher Perspektive nachgehen. Dies können sowohl konzeptionell-theoretische Überlegungen als auch Fallstudien oder andere empirische Beiträge sein. • Mit zunehmender Geschwindigkeit folgt gegenwärtig eine ökonomische Krise auf die andere: Subprime‐Krise, Bankenkrise, Finanzkrise, Ernährungskrise, Eurokrise, Schuldenkrise, Exportkrise. Dies sind unterschiedliche Bezeichnungen und Ausprägungen einer tief greifenden Systemkrise des Kapitalismus, welche längst nicht mehr nur die Peripherie, die Länder des globalen Südens, sondern spätestens seit 2008 definitiv auch die westlichen Gesellschaften trifft.
• An ihrer Fachtagung 2012 will die SGGF eine Plattform schaffen für eine erste breitere Bestandesaufnahme dieser ökonomischen Umstrukturierungsprozesse und deren Bedeutung für Geschlecht und die Geschlechterverhältnisse und damit einen Beitrag leisten zu einer produktiven Diskussion und kritischen Einschätzung.

• Im 21. Jahrhundert wird Anonymität zunehmend als Nicht-Identifizierbarkeit definiert, ein Zustand, der angesichts der neuen technischen Möglichkeiten ebenso unerreichbar wie reizvoll erscheint. Gleichzeitig lösen sich traditionelle Identifikationsmerkmale auf: Zur Namenskennzeichnung sind weitere (teilweise geschlechtsneutrale) Codierungen wie Kunden-, Kreditkarten- und Versicherungsnummern, IP-Adressen hinzugekommen; Ortungssysteme können eine Person bzw. ihre mobilen Geräte anhand eines elektronisch ermittelbaren Bewegungsprofils eindeutig identifizierbar machen. Im geplanten Band 17 (2012) des Jahrbuchs Querelles sollen die Dimensionen und Konsequenzen dieser Entwicklungen untersucht werden.
