Canadian Studies Day 2011: McLuhan's Global Village Today: Transatlantic Perspectives on Medium and Message (12.-14.05.2011)
In celebration of Marshall McLuhans 100. birthday the Marburg Centre for Canadian Studies organised the Canadian Studies Day 2011 on 12-14 May, 2011, with the title "McLuhan's Global Village Today: Transatlantic Perspectives on Medium and Message". Focus of the conference were topics such as the "global village", "hot" and "cold" media, "the medium is the message" as well as the relevance of these ideas for different disciplines and from a transatlantic perspective.
McLuhan's ideas are not only relevant in media- and communication studies, but also in other disciplines such as cultural and literary studies. The Marburg Centre for Canadian Studies is glad that Professor David Staines (University of Ottawa) and Professor Richard Cavell (University of British Columbia) contributed as keynote speakers.
