05.07.2026 Commentary on Hex et al. (2026) - 'Rich Representations as the Missing Link Between Multimodality and Signal Honesty'

Toke Hoffmeister, Florian Hintz & Mathias Scharinger

A commentary by Florian Hintz, together with Toke Hoffmeister and Mathias Scharinger, will soon appear in Behavioral and Brain Sciences. In their commentary on the article 'Multimodality as a Safeguard of Honesty in Communication and Language: From Animals to Humans'  (Hex et al., 2026), the authors argue that the account proposed by Hex et al. can only be adequately explained within a neurocognitive framework that assumes "rich" representations.
