12.03.2026 Call for Papers: “Constructing the False: Forgery and Fake in the Middle Ages” – Münster, 22–25 February 2027

We are pleased to share the Call for Papers for the conference “Konstruktionen des Falschen. Fälschung und Fake im Mittelalter”, which will take place as part of the Symposium of the Mediävistikverband at the University of Münster from 22 to 25 February 2027.

The conference explores the themes of falsehood, forgery, and “fake” in medieval societies from an interdisciplinary perspective. Rather than focusing only on the modern identification of forged sources, the symposium aims to examine how “falsehood” itself was constructed, negotiated, and communicated within medieval cultural, religious, political, and intellectual contexts.

Contributions are welcome from a wide range of medieval studies disciplines, including history, literary studies, theology, art history, legal history, Islamic studies, and related fields.

Deadline for the submission of panel and paper proposals: 31 May 2026.
