12.06.2026 Successful PhD Defense at the Department of Islamic Studies, CNMS

The Department of Islamic Studies at the Center for Near and Middle Eastern Studies (CNMS), Philipps-Universität Marburg, congratulates Dr. Rana Aly on the successful defense of her doctoral dissertation.

Her dissertation, titled “Tolerance under Prohibition and Authoritarian Threat Perception in Egypt and Turkey,” examines questions of tolerance, authoritarian governance, and state perceptions of religious and political actors in Egypt and Turkey. The work contributes to current academic discussions in the fields of Islamic Studies, political thought, and Middle Eastern Studies.

The disputation took place at the CNMS in Marburg in the presence of colleagues, students, and guests.
