09.05.2025 TAZIZ – Science Partnerships in Islamic Studies at CNMS

TAZIZ at CNMS promotes research and academic exchange in Islamic Studies between Germany and the MENA region, funded by the DAAD.

The TAZIZ – Science Partnerships initiative at the Center for Near and Middle Eastern Studies (CNMS) of Philipps-Universität Marburg represents a dynamic and forward-looking contribution to international academic cooperation. Funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), this project is part of a wider strategy to promote equitable and sustainable research partnerships between Germany and countries in the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region.

Within the scope of Islamic Studies, the TAZIZ project at CNMS focuses on fostering long-term collaborations that go beyond traditional academic exchange. It supports joint research projects, co-teaching formats, academic mobility, and institutional development between German universities and partner institutions in the Global South. The initiative places particular emphasis on mutual knowledge production, the strengthening of local academic structures, and the promotion of early-career scholars.

By integrating international perspectives and encouraging interdisciplinary dialogue, TAZIZ contributes to the decolonization of knowledge and supports a more inclusive global academic landscape. The project also plays a key role in enhancing the visibility and relevance of Islamic Studies in both local and international contexts.
