Tutorial: Orientation and academic success for international master students of Mathematics and Informatics

For degree-seeking students of the Master programs Computer Science, Data Science, Business Informatics, Mathematics and Business Mathematics

* You recently started or will start your Master’s degree at Philipps-Universität Marburg?
* You feel a little lost in your study structure and with the orientation at a German university?
* Studying and learning in Marburg are completely different to your previous study experiences?
* You want to meet other international students, find new friends and share your own experiences?

The tutorial is aimed at international Master students of the department 12 Mathematics and Informatics and offers practical support in finding your way around your studies, the department and the university. It is therefore particularly interesting for students in their first semesters. The focus is on orientation in your own study structure and academic culture in Germany, understanding relevant terms of everyday university life, confidently handling of different types of performances, typical methods as well as the acquisition of basic academic working techniques.

Our tutorial is offered by Ali Heydari. He is an international student of a higher semester of computer science. He will share with you his experiences and tips and tricks that have helped him through his studies. In a relaxed peer to peer atmosphere, you can ask questions and address current challenges and have the opportunity to practice some forms of study performance without pressure to perform and without assessment.

 Main topics of the tutorial:

• Arrival and local logistics
• Academic system, degree planning and libraries
• Digital setup and university support systems
• Exams, coding tools and academic writing

When and where?

The tutorial takes place online and is split into 4 sessions before the regular courses start. Each session runs from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Full participation is strongly recommended because the topics change daily and build on one another:

• Tuesday, September 29, 2026
