07.05.2026 RAND Europe Launches Chinese Academy of Sciences Directory
The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) Directory by RAND Europe is a new digital resource designed to support government institutions, companies, and academic organisations in assessing potential links between Chinese research institutions and China’s defence sector. The directory analyses 50 research units within the Chinese Academy of Sciences and evaluates their possible involvement in the development and sustainment of Chinese military capabilities using six research and collaboration indicators.
The platform aims to strengthen due diligence and export compliance by providing an accessible, evidence-based overview of institutional affiliations, research activities, and potential defence connections. It can help universities and research organisations make more informed decisions when establishing international collaborations and reduce the risk of unintentionally transferring sensitive technologies or know-how.
What is RAND?
The project was developed by RAND Europe, part of the RAND Corporation, an independent non-profit research organisation founded in the United States that specialises in evidence-based policy research on topics such as security, technology, healthcare, and international affairs.
