Teaching and learning – FAQs for students

Here you will find information on changing courses, modules, subjects, topics and the Degree Program and Examination Regulations
I would like to withdraw from a course
You can do this before the corresponding deadline (GER).
In general, you should deregister from all courses that you did not attend after initially registering to avoid problems when registering for courses in MARVIN the following semester.
This is because MARVIN only allows exactly as many course registrations per module as are to be completed in this module according to the examination regulations, regardless of whether you have attended a course or not or whether you would like to attend another one or repeat a course.
I would like to change a compulsory module
Unfortunately, this is not possible. Completion of all compulsory modules is mandatory for graduation.
I would like to change a compulsory elective module
If an alternative compulsory elective module is still available in the same field of study, a compulsory elective module that has already been started can be changed once.
Please submit an informal application for a one-time change of a compulsory elective module to the Examinations Office, stating the examination number and providing your original signature. Note: In this case, “EN” (= finally failed) appears on the ToR for the “changed” module.
Incidentally, a module is only considered “started” if you have registered for an examination in it and have not deregistered from the examination (regularly or by certificate) or have already taken an examination in it.
The newly selected module and all other compulsory elective modules must then be passed, otherwise you will lose your examination eligibility and will not be able to continue your degree program.
I would like to change the Degree Program and Examination Regulations within a subject
This is generally possible if newer Degree Program and Examination Regulations (StPO) came into effect after your enrolment. However, the change is irrevocable, so you should think carefully about whether this is the right step for you.
Our academic advisers will be happy to advise you on this.
You can find an overview of which previous achievements can be recognized for the new StPO in the case of a StPO change and information on the specific change procedure on the website for change of our Examination Office (GER).
I would like to switch to the combined bachelor’s degree program
This is generally possible if you are already enrolled in a mono bachelor’s degree program but it is a significant process.
We have compiled an overview with detailed information on the switching options and conditions on our website for change of our Examination Office (GER).I would like to change the topic of my thesis
This procedure is described in detail in the “Graduation phase” section.
I would like to switch from the bachelor’s program to the master’s program after graduation
You can find an overview of the master's degree programms offered by the departement (GER) on our department website.
You can find an overview of all the degree programs (GER) offered at Philipps-Universität Marburg on our main website.
If you change from a bachelor’s to a master's degree program at Philipps-Universität Marburg, it is usually necessary to transfer your registration. You do NOT deregister (exmatriculate).
Further information is available via Stud-i-fon (GER).
