Information on registering for and deregistering from coursework and examinations

  • In addition to examinations, some modules also include “compulsory coursework”.
If this is the case, you can see these in the module in MARVIN via your “Study planner with module plan” (> click on module title). You must also register for these course achievements via MARVIN by the deadline (GER) provided for this purpose, just as you would for an examination. (Please remember: Different registration deadlines apply to modules from other departments!)

For all other course achievements that are required as part of active participation in courses, please register only with the respective lecturer.

Coursework is generally ungraded but must be “passed”.

Please submit the sample cover sheet.docx  for each piece of compulsory coursework so that your record of passing the compulsory coursework for the semester can be entered quickly and correctly in MARVIN.

An overview of compulsory coursework and examinations, as well as further information on the respective modules in Department 03 (FB03) can also be found in the module descriptions (GER).

  • WHEN are the deadlines?
There is exactly one deadline (GER)  per semester on or before which:
-> regular examinations can be taken: the examination date
-> examinations can be retaken: the retake date/retake examination date

    WHAT is necessary and when?
For both dates, you are required to register for the examination via MARVIN (-> see FAQs on examination management)  before the deadline.

You can register for the retake date only if you also:

-> were already registered for the regular examination date and

-> have demonstrably attempted the examination but did not pass*

(*This would be the case if, for example, you submit a “blank page” by the examination date, in addition to the fully completed sample cover sheet.docx.

    HOW does the registration work?
Registration must be made via MARVIN.
Registration for the graduation thesis takes place via the Examination Office, see “Graduation phase”.

WHAT do I need to consider?
Tip 1: Check immediately after your registration to confirm that it has been completed correctly. Subsequent objections will not be considered.

Tip 2: Complete all corresponding sample cover sheet directly during the online registration process; or when registering, take a screenshot of the exam number so that you can quickly find it later and transfer it to the sample cover sheet.docx to be submitted for the exam.

Tip 3: Review the checklist before you start/submit your exam.

  • You can find the correct examination number for compulsory coursework and examinations in our exam number overview.

  • If you are registered for the exam and can no longer deregister because the exam registration and deregistration deadline (GER)  has already passed, you have the following options:

Are you ill or unable to take part in the examination for other reasons beyond your control AND can you provide evidence of this (e.g., a doctor’s note/medical certificate)? > If you provide the examiner with this proof in a timely fashion stating all the information required in accordance with the sample cover sheet.docx, a “recognized justified withdrawal” (AT) and no failed attempt, will be entered and you can register for the retake examination in the same semester.

If you fail to attend the examination without providing proof, you will be considered to have “not attended” (NA). You will receive 0 points. The attempt will be counted as one failed attempt and you can register for the examination again only in the following semester (provided you still have enough examination attempts).

You wish to withdraw from the examination for other important reasons: If you inform the examiner of this in writing BEFORE the start of the examination (SUBMISSION OF THE EXAMINATION), if necessary with submission of appropriate evidence, stating all the information required according to the sample cover sheet, this will be recorded as a “recognized justified withdrawal” (RAN) and will not be counted as a failed attempt but you will not be able to register for the examination again until the following semester.
