LGBTIQ* and Human Rights in East Africa

This project explores queerness and human rights in East Africa through the combined lens of postcolonial and queer theories. It analyzes the intersectional entanglements of historically constructed lines of difference within the cis-heteronormative matrix of postcolonial spaces. Using qualitative research and discourse-theoretical approaches, the project investigates the experiences of marginalization and subjectification, as well as the self-organization and strategies of LGBTIQ* social movements in Rwanda and Tanzania.
