"Politics of Gender" in History and Civic Education

This exploratory study examines how intersectional concepts of gender are addressed in school-based history and civic education, and how they relate to students' and teachers' understanding of politics. The project investigates the interpretive frameworks that young people and educators bring to discourses around emancipation, (anti-)feminism, gender, and identity.

The project argues that "Politics of Gender" - understood as struggles over gender relations, emancipation, and identity - represents a field of high democratic relevance that remains underrepresented in school curricula. It also aims to strengthen the integration of gender perspectives into teacher training at Marburg University.

The project is based in Dept. 06 (History Education), Dept. 03 (Civic Education), and the Center for Gender Studies and Feminist Futurology.
