Placement Procedure
Before you can register for an English language course, you are required to complete a 25-minute online placement test (C-test). If you are interested in the design of a C-test, you can take a 5-minute trial test.
Once the test is complete, you will receive an automatically-generated email informing you about your score and associated level. While you can initially only register for courses at this level, your score may be adjusted by up to 7 points after speaking to the coordinator, Dr. Fabienne Quennet. Please be aware that your result, otherwise, is final.
Important: If you would like to attend a general English courses (non-academic or academic), you will need a valid score on the general-English placement test. If you would like to attend a course of English for Specific Academic Purposes, you will need a valid score on the discipline-specific placement test. Please choose the test that corresponds with your degree program and the course you are interested in. If you would like to attend a preparatory English course for holders of vocational qualifications, please complete the general English test.

Results are sent to you by email after the test. You can also view them online at any time.
ATTENTION: Please use only letters of the German alphabet for entering your personal data. Don't use Umlauts ('Ä/ä', 'Ü/ü', 'Ö/ö') and special letters such as 'ß' and foreign language letters and accents.
Note for visually impaired students: If you have difficulties filling in the C-test you can obtain a test in a word format. Please contact Dr. Fabienne Quennet.
