Introductory Sessions and Workshops
Introductory sessions
In order to use the Self Study Center, participation in a general or language-specific introductory session is required. During the 90-minute session, you will find out about the learning options at the Center, and you will have an opportunity to explore the possibilities for the language you are interested in. Afterwards, you will be given the user ID which authorizes you to use the Self-Study Center. You do not have to book a PC-workstation.
Please pay attention to the information about the measures against the spread of Coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) during the on-site events in the Self-Study Center. Detailed information is provided in this document: Obligatory measures to prevent infections while learning at the Self-Study Centre
Teachers can book the Center specifically for their course groups, possibly with a focus on specific levels or skills. Please make an appointment and discuss the appropriate contents with the student assistant at the Self Study Center.
If you are unable to attend a session for which you are registered, please give us prior notice so that we can open up the place for another person.
In-semester
Please register in time for the introductory session (at the latest 24 hours before the time of the session). Otherwise, we can not guarantee a place on the session.
- General introductions: You can take part in a general introduction if you are studying multiple languages or if you would like to get a general overview of the learning options at the Center. You can register online.
Due to the situation with the coronavirus, the in-class introductory sessions cannot be offered at the moment. As an alternative, you may participate in a virtual introductory session. - Language specific introductions

Workshops for Language Learners
Aside from the introductory sessions, the Self Study Center also offers language-specific workshops for learners as well as Language Cafés for English, German, Spanish and French.
The average length of the workshops is 90 minutes, giving you enough time to work on a specific topic. The workshops do not replace an introductory session. In order to obtain a user ID, participation in an introductory session is required.
