Scientific history is full of creative thinkers and solution finders. At the core of being creative is the ability to come up with good scientific questions, discover new ways of making sense of surprising data, and to create a working experimental setup against the odds of the availability and functionality of technical equipment.
Even though creative thinking is a central part of being human, creative sparks and new ideas seem to have their own timing. It seems like the more urgently we need them, the more they conceal themselves.

In this workshop, we will explore various possibilities of facilitating entry into the creative stage and the process of coming up with new ideas. This includes methods of [systematically] fostering a helpful, open, and flexible state of mind as well as techniques of organizing, structuring, and facilitating the ideation process, whether alone or with others. We will do this by means of short introductory reflections and, more importantly, practically by engaging with various techniques.
This seminar is dynamic and interactive. In exercises drawing on everyday practical problems, we will develop the topic and immediately put it into practice. Short theory blocks will convey important foundations, and practice-oriented teaching units and exercises will help you depart from familiar paths of thought and gain experience with these methods of deliberately fostering creativity.
