As well as teaching you basic geographical methods in the first three semesters, the major subject "Geography” in a combined bachelor’s degree will teach you specialist skills from all the sub-areas of geography and will enable you to focus on human geography, physical geography or relations between man and the environment. From geoinformatics, cartography, statistics and geographical field and laboratory methods, you can acquire skills that are used for job-related problem solving in advanced modules, e.g. in the context of urban planning or location analysis. A field course and an extramural vocational internship will build a bridge to the real world.

When combined with one or two minor subjects, the major subject Geography will qualify you both for a profession and for further academic work. You will have the option of either entering a variety of professional fields or being admitted to a Master of Arts/Master of Science programme in the field of geography.

The abilities and skills acquired can be used in the following professional fields in particular:

  • spatial planning in the broadest sense,
  • environment, nature, landscape,
  • development cooperation,
  • information and documentation,
  • geospatial information technology

The choice of your major subject will decisively shape your professional qualifications profile. In conjunction with one or two minor subjects, your relevant work experience (e.g. internships, part-time jobs, voluntary work) and your personal skills, it will enable you to refine your profile and carve out your own individual array of career options.
