LOEWE Research Focus: Exploring Fundamental Linguistic
Categories
The goal of this LOEWE research focus is to elucidate the basic questions of linguistic (grammatical) description and theory formation. Categories serving as basic concepts in the humanities must be empirically founded. For linguistics this means that direct reflexes of these categories can be observed in language processing and that these categories must play a verifiable role in language change and variation. At the same time, these basic categories must be part of a theoretically founded framework.
