Fees at Kent

Fees at Marburg

The University of Marburg does not charge tuition fees. However, students do have to pay administrative fees to the amount of about 250 Euros per semester. These administrative fees include contributions to the students union and free public transport for the whole State of Hessen and adjacent cities like Heidelberg and Goettingen. The University of Marburg charges small fees for elective German language modules or the intensive language and preparation course in September. The Center for Conflict Studies collaborates with the Academy for Conflict Transformation. The Academy charges fees for their modules, which can also be taken by students of the International Double Degree Programme. However, these modules are additional and elective. Marburg University does not charge fees for the required modules.

Whilst studying at Kent University, you only have to pay a reduced administrative fee of about 125 Euros per semester to Marburg University.

Internal DAAD grants:

The Centre for Conflict Studies at Marburg University has been awarded a grant by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). This grant allows us to provide five scholarships of 775 Euros each per month for the period of seven months (September 2012 - March 2013) to study at Kent University. Only German students are eligible to be funded by the DAAD under this scheme. International students can only apply if they meet certain criteria including, for example, permanent residence in Germany, refugee status in Germany or prior university or high school degree in Germany. Please check the DAAD criteria* for further specifications on eligibility. 

Eligible students who want to be considered for one of these DAAD stipends just need to add a written statement of no more than 400 words to their application. This statement should explain why the applicant wants to be considered for a DAAD stipend. Eligible students who want to be considered for a DAAD stipend have to submit their application to Kent University by 01 June 2012. Successful applicants who receive an offer for a DAAD stipend have to both take up the stipend and register at Kent University by 16 July 2012. This stipulation applies for German nationals only (or international students who meet the DAAD eligibility criteria) who want to be considered for a DAAD grant.

Auslandsbafög and other funding opportunities:

German nationals can also apply for funding by the ´Auslandsbafoeg` funding scheme. If you qualify for funding, the tuition fees at Kent University can fully be covered by a grant (i.e. non-repayable funding) from this scheme. We strongly advise German nationals to apply. The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) offers information and advice on scholarships for German students who want to study abroad and international students who want to study in Germany.  German language speakers can also search the databases of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the Stifterverband.  We encourage all applicants and registered students to apply for scholarship. However, be aware that most scholarship schemes are heavily oversubscribed.

Neither Kent nor Marburg has discretionary funds. Please make sure to have secured enough funding before registering. Unfortunately, we do not have hardship grants, which we can offer to our students.

Loans

Usually, students residing in Germany with a Study Visa can work up to 90 days (or 180 half days) per year as well as working in student/academic assistant roles.

 

Internship

EU students can apply for Erasmus Placement grants. German students can also apply for PROMOS grants, ASA grants, Carlo Schmid grants, AuslandsBaföG, Anke-Reese-stipends or Heinrich J. Klein grants. We recommend getting in touch with your home institutions or governments in order to explore other potential sources of funding.

Teilnahmeberechtigt sind Studierende mit deutscher Staatsbürgerschaft.
Unter engen Voraussetzungen können auch Deutschen gleichgestellte Personen gemäß § 8 Abs. 1 Ziff. 2ff. und Abs. 2 und Abs. 3 BAföG einbezogen werden. Dabei handelt es sich um

• heimatlose Ausländer;
• anerkannte Flüchtlinge;
• Inhaber einer Niederlassungserlaubnis;
• Inhaber einer Erlaubnis zum Daueraufenthalt – EG;
• Inhaber einer Aufenthaltserlaubnis nach den §§22, 23 Abs. 1 oder 2, den §§ 23a, 25 Abs. 1 oder 2, den §§ 28, 37, 38 Abs. 1 Nr. 2, §104a des Aufenthaltsgesetzes (AufenthG) bei ständigem Wohnsitz in Deutschland;
• Inhaber einer Aufenthaltserlaubnis nach § 25 Abs. 3, Abs. 4 Satz 2 oder Abs. 5, § 31 AufenthG bei ständigem Wohnsitz in Deutschland und einem Aufenthalt von mindestens vier Jahren;
• Ehegatten und Kinder von Ausländern mit Aufenthaltstitel, wenn sie selber eine Aufenthaltserlaubnis nach den §§ 30, 32, 33 oder 34 AufenthG besitzen, ihren ständigen Wohnsitz in Deutschland haben und gegebenenfalls (je nach Aufenthaltstitel des Ehepartners bzw. der Eltern) einen Aufenthalt von mindestens vier Jahren nachweisen können;
• Ausländer, die als Ehegatten oder Kinder von EU- und EWR-Staatsangehörigen ein Recht auf Einreise und Aufenthalt haben;
• Studierende aus EU-EWR-Ländern, die in Deutschland bereits vor Aufnahme des Studiums in einer mit dem Studium in inhaltlichem Zusammenhang stehenden Tätigkeit gearbeitet haben;
• Studierende aus EU-EWR-Ländern mit Daueraufenthaltsrecht;
• Ausländer, die selbst vor Aufnahme ihres Studiums fünf Jahre oder deren Eltern während der letzten sechs Jahre vor dem Studium mindestens drei Jahre rechtmäßig in Deutschland erwerbstätig waren.

Darüber hinaus soll geprüft werden, inwieweit ein Deutschlandbezug gegeben und ob die Förderung des Ausländers mit einem Auslandsstipendium förder- und kulturpolitisch zu vertreten ist. Eine Förderung kommt insbesondere dann in Frage, wenn der Ausländer seine Schulzeit überwiegend in Deutschland verbracht und die deutsche Hochschulzugangsberechtigung erworben oder bereits vier Semester an einer deutschen Hochschule studiert hat; ferner muss die begründete Erwartung bestehen, dass der Ausländer nach Beendigung des vorübergehenden Auslandsaufenthaltes wieder nach Deutschland zurückkehrt.“
