Funding Opportunities
The Graduate Center for Humanities and Social Sciences awards travel assistance and funding for the organization of conferences, etc. to its members. Calls for applications for travel assistance are generally made semiannually and can be submitted only during the open application period. Members of the Center can informally apply throughout the year for funding toward the organization of meetings, conferences, colloquia, lecture series, etc. Additionally, the Graduate Center supports female students in the final phase of their studies and female graduates of the social sciences and humanities who are playing with the idea of pursuing a doctoral degree. The mentoring program ProMotivation would like to guide and support them through this decision process.
The MArburg University Research Academy (MARA) provides further funding opportunities. Generally each year, three doctoral scholarships are awarded, rotating annually between doctoral candidates in the humanities and social sciences and the doctoral candidates in the life and natural sciences. Under the concept of equality scholarships, MARA offers scholarships twice a year to junior female scholars for final theses to postdoctoral treatises (Habilitationen) and dissertation projects as well as scholarships to help balance a scholarly career and family obligations. For brief stays abroad, Philipps-Universität awards partial stipends to its doctoral candidates on a semiannual basis from the DAAD-funded PROMOS program toward participation in a specialized course.
Philipps-Universität and its closely affiliated institutions do have further funding opportunities available to doctoral candidates. With funding from the STIBET doctoral program of the DAAD, the Department of International Affairs and Family Services awards on an annual to semiannual basis a total of nine teaching and research assistantships, one degree completion scholarship and two advising scholarships to international doctoral candidates. The Office for Junior Scholars awards a doctoral studies award once a year for outstanding doctoral dissertations. Financial assistance for printing is provided by the Wilhelm Hahn and Heirs Foundation. Funding for food and beverage during a small convention or symposium of Philipps-Universität can be applied for with the Ursula Kuhlmann Endowment Fund of the Marburger Universitätsbund. Egyptian doctoral candidates of the economic sciences (and natural sciences) who are pursuing doctoral studies at Philipps-Universität can find information about support here.
We will gladly advise you on funding and support opportunities at Philipps-Universität. Please contact us!
