Course Offering of the Graduate Center for Humanities and
Social Sciences
The Graduate Center's course program offers universally relevant training on core competences and transferable skills, which have become an indispensable addition to specialized knowledge in the education and everyday working life of doctoral candidates, scholars, and scientists.
Our workshops and courses are usually one to two days long and frequently take place toward the end of the week so as to minimize conflicting with participants' other obligations. We request that you pay special attention to the course/workshop's content and target group so that you select courses that best fit your needs. Our courses and workshops always begin promptly at the time indicated in the course listing.
Participation
Participation in our courses and workshops is open primarily to members of the Graduate Centers and the MArburg University Research Academy (MARA). Advisory members are also cordially invited to participate in our program. Junior scholars from a different university that is involved with joint projects with Philipps-Universität Marburg (Research Training Groups, Collaborative Research Centres, LOEWE Centers or LOEWE Foci), junior scholars from Universität Kassel who are completing the continuing education certificate "Entwicklung und Management von Forschungsprojekten", and junior scholars from Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen and Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen who are participating in the certification program "Kompetenz für professionelle Hochschullehre" can also register for our courses and workshops as internal participants at a reduced rate.
Non-members can generally participate (the registration fee is higher) as long as spaces are still available. In such a case, you will receive a notification from us two weeks prior to the start of the course or workshop indicating whether or not spaces are still available.
Please note: Doctoral candidates and staff of Philipps-Universität do not automatically pay the internal/reduced course fee. To get the reduced rate, you will need to apply for (free) membership to the Graduate Center.
Please note: Courses with university-level didactic components can be applied toward the "Kompetenz für professionelle Hochschullehre" certificate from the Hochschuldidaktisches Netzwerk Mittelhessen (HDM). If you are interested in obtaining such credit, please contact the HDM office manager at Philipps-Universität Marburg (Rieke Bernard) in advance.
Registration process
Please register online for each course or workshop. You will then receive a confirmation e-mail. Two weeks prior to the course or workshop you will receive another e-mail with information on submitting payment for your registration. Please submit payment as soon as possible and no later than by the start of the course. We kindly ask you to please bring proof of payment with you to the first day of the seminar.
Registration is always binding. You can cancel your registration for whatever reason up to seven days before the course begins. After that deadline has passed, the registration fee is due, regardless of whether or not you actually participated in the course. Exceptions can only be made upon submission of relevant documentation.
