Scientists' Day 2026: Time & Timing in Academic Career Planning
This year’s Scientists’ Day will take place on June 16, 2026, in the Alte Aula (Lahntor 3). The event will focus on the role that time and timing play in academic careers and how career decisions can be shaped in an environment characterized by fixed-term employment contracts, qualification requirements, and individual life plans.
Especially in the early stages of a scientific career, the question of the “right time” often arises: When is the best time to take the next step in one’s career? And how can academic career paths be reconciled with personal life decisions?
The event provides an opportunity to discuss the factors of time and timing in career planning: How do we deal with time pressure? How can we balance research, teaching, and personal commitments? Which strategies have proven effective—and where do they reach their limits?
We would like to explore these and other questions at this year's Scientists' Day.
