Arrival within Marburg

The Center for Conflict Studies is situated in the city center of Marburg, close to the Elisabethkirche and therefore easy to find. Below you will find more details for your arrival to the center...

  • ... by Train

The Train station is approximately 10 walking minutes away. Upon leaving the train station, follow the Bahnhofsstraße until its end, take a left into the Elisabethstraße and then turn right into the Ketzerbach opposite of the Elisabethkirche. 50 meters further on the right, you will find the building displayed below. Alternatively, you can take nearly every bus line that is going from the train station: cross the Bahnhofsstraße after leaving the train station to reach the bus station and look for the stop "Elisabethkirche". The stop is situated, depending on the bus line, in Deutschhausstraße or Pilgrimstein. Orientate yourself in direction of the Elisabethkirche and from there, follow the description above to the Ketzerbach.

  • ... by Car

Leave the B3 via the exit "MR-Bahnhofsstraße". If you arrive from the north (direction Kassel), turn right into the Bahnhofsstraße after leaving the B3, follow it and at its end turn left into Elisabethstraße. Turn right opposite of the Elisabethkirche into the Ketzerbach.

If you arrive from the south (direction Gießen), also leave the B3 via the exit "MR-Bahnhofsstraße". Turn right into the Neue Kasseler Straße and follow it to the train station, there turn right into the Bahnhofsstraße and at its end turn left into Elisabethstraße. Turn right opposite of the Elisabethkirche into the Ketzerbach.

Parking spots are unfortunately very limited.

  • ... by foot from the City Center

Orientate yourself on the direction of the Elisabethkirche (that is the church with two separate towers). Mostly every passenger will know its location. At the Elisabethkirche look for the signage Ketzerbach/Marbach. When you are on the Ketzerbach, keep to the right. 50 meters further, you will find the building displayed below.

Arrival from Frankfurt am Main

  • ... from the Airport

From Frankfurt (Main) International Terminal 1:
    - Follow the signs to the Regionalbahnhof (regional trains)
    - Buy a ticket to Marburg (Lahn)
    - Take any S-Bahn train to Frankfurt (Main) Hauptbahnhof (central station)
    - Take any train to Marburg (Lahn) (~1h00)
(for some more details see below, “Travelling by Train”)

From Frankfurt (Main) International Terminal 2:
    - Take the direct shuttle bus to the airport train stations (the stop is located just outside the terminal exit on level 2).
    - During hours when the shuttle bus is not operating, follow the signs to “Bahnhöfe (train stations) via Sky Line”.
    - Buy a ticket to Marburg (Lahn)
    - Take any S-Bahn train to Frankfurt (Main) Hauptbahnhof (central station)
    - Take any train to Marburg (Lahn) (~ 1h00)
    - (for some more details see below, “Travelling by Train”)

If you arrive at a different airport, you can check train timetables at www.bahn.com/en

  • ... by Train

In general, current train timetables can be found at Deutsche Bahn’s website (www.bahn.com/en)
    - From Frankfurt (Main) Hauptbahnhof (central station), take any train to Marburg
    - There are both some regional trains (RE or HLB) and long-distance trains (ICE or IC) going to Marburg (Lahn)
    - Both take around 1h drive
    - The prices differ (if booked immediately before travel it varies between 17€ and 27€), usually the ICE or IC is a little more expensive than the regional trains
    - You do not need to immediately buy a return ticket as it does not change the prices compared to if you book the tickets separately (e.g. one ticket at the day of arrival and one ticket at the day of departure)

You should exit the train at Hauptbahnhof Marburg (Lahn), not Bahnhof Marburg (Süd).
Please note that you should not board a train without a valid ticket.
