22.07.2026 First Master’s Ceremony at the Center for Conflict Studies
On 19 June 2026, the Center for Conflict Studies at Philipps University of Marburg held its first Master’s Ceremony for graduates of the M.A. in Peace and Conflict Studies. In total, 25 graduates were honoured in a festive setting.
The event began with an academic ceremony in the lecture hall. Prof. Dr Buckley-Zistel and Prof. Dr Thorsten Bonacker paid tribute to the graduates’ achievements and presented the honours. Each graduate was called up individually; the title of their Master’s thesis was read out and, to great applause, they received a certificate and the traditional graduation cap.
The celebrations then continued at the Musizierhaus terrace in the Old Botanical Gardens. A choir of Peace and Conflict Studies students provided a special musical backdrop, performing two pieces. This was followed by a summer party organised by the student union of the Center for Conflict Studies, offering graduates, their families and friends, as well as lecturers and staff, the opportunity to socialise. With summery temperatures and around 150 guests in attendance, the Center's inaugural Master's Ceremony was a resounding success. The Center for Conflict Studies looks forward to continuing this new tradition and hosting another Master's Ceremony next year.
