Sabine Kurtenbach is a research fellow at the GIGA Institute of Latin American Studies and has been an honorary professor at Philipps-Universität Marburg since 2018. With her team, she researches the consequences and interactions between violence and political institutions, particularly in the context of post-conflict societies. The focus is on different perspectives on and understandings of peace, institutions of conflict transformation, changes in violence, and especially their significance for women and youth.
Geographic research focus is Latin America, especially Colombia and El Salvador, as well as selected countries in the MENA region and Sub-Saharan Africa.
