11.01.2026 Ta'ziz Closing Conference (Marburg, 17–20 December 2025)
From 17 to 20 December 2025, Philipps-Universität Marburg hosted the closing conference of the DAAD-funded Ta’ziz Science Cooperation project “Dealing with Material Culture in the Eastern Mediterranean: Between Excavation and Digitization.”
The conference brought together scholars from Europe, North Africa, and the Eastern Mediterranean to reflect on the outcomes of the two-year interdisciplinary cooperation.
The program included keynote lectures, thematic panels, and discussions covering material culture, archaeology, manuscript studies, and digital humanities, with a particular focus on Egypt, the Levant, Cyprus, and Anatolia. Presentations highlighted both historical research and innovative approaches to digitization and heritage studies.
Beyond the academic sessions, the conference fostered exchange through receptions, a visit to Marburg’s Christmas Market, and a guided city tour, strengthening professional networks and collaborative ties. The event successfully concluded the Ta’ziz project while laying the groundwork for future academic cooperation in the field of material culture and digitization.
