Willkommen am Fachgebiet für Soziologie mit den Schwerpunkten Sozialstrukturanalyse und Konfliktsoziologie
Soziale Welten, verstanden als institutionalisierte Handlungs- und Wahrnehmungsräume, bilden eine gesellschaftliche Ordnungsebene eigenen Rechts, die zwischen Interaktionsordnung und Gesellschaftssystem angesiedelt ist. Die Forschungen am Fachgebiet zielen u.a. auf die empirische Analyse von Ordnungskonstruktionen vor Gerichten, in virtuellen Welten, dem zeitgenössischen Schlaflabor und im Amateurfußballsport. Besondere Aufmerksamkeit gilt der Bedeutung von Kategorisierungen im gesellschaftlichen Alltag, mit einem Schwerpunkt auf Fragen von Migration und Ethnizität.
Die theoretischen Grundlagen finden sich insbesondere in der Soziologie des Alltags sowie in der Wissenssoziologie. In methodischer Hinsicht bewegen sich die Analysen im Spektrum der interpretativen Verfahren der Sozialforschung. In der Lehre beteiligt sich die Professur maßgeblich an den soziologischen BA- und MA-Studiengängen sowie am Studienprogramm des Zentrums für Konfliktforschung.

Welcome to the Research Group of Sociology with focus on Social Structural Analysis and Conflict Sociology.
In our group we examine the ways in which membership to social worlds are being organized. We are interested in how categorial and relational affiliations (like ethnicity, ‘race’, gender) are ‘done’ situationally, how these affiliations interact and how they merge with interactive obligations and institutional roles.
Currently the lab works on the social worlds of court rooms, sleep labs, amateur soccer, urban neighborhoods as well as virtual worlds. Instead of thinking of these worlds as closed and self-sufficient entities, we are interested in the processes by which they maintain their unity, acquire ‘univocality’ and manage ambivalence.
The theoretical foundations can be found particularly in the sociology of everyday life and sociology of knowledge. We follow an interpretative methodology in empirical social research. In terms of teaching, the group contributes to the BA and MA degree programs in Sociology, as well as the academic program at the Center for Conflict Research.
