21.05.2019 ICWC-Teilnahme an internationalem Workshop zum Thema „Staging History: Archives, Objects and Architecture“ an der Ostfalia Hochschule für angewandte Wissenschaften

Der Geschäftsführer des ICWC, Herr Dr. Form, nahm vergangene Woche an einem internationalen Workshop mit dem Titel „Staging History: Archives, Objects and Architecture“ an der Ostfalia Hochschule für angewandte Wissenschaften in Wolfenbüttel teil. Am 16. Und 17. Mai widmeten sich die Forscherinnen und Forscher u.a. dem Umgang mit Archivmaterialien und der Nutzung von Archiven als Ausstellungsort.

Zu den Veranstaltern des Workshops gehörten die Gedenkstätte in der JVA Wolfenbüttel, die Université libre de Bruxelles, die State archives of Belgium sowie die Philipps-Universität Marburg, das Niedersächsische Landesarchiv – Standort Wolfenbüttel und die Ostfalia Hochschule für angewandte Wissenschaften.

Im Detail befasste man sich u.a. mit Problemen im Umgang mit Massendaten und widmete sich folgenden weiteren Themenkomplexen:

* Archives as Exhibits: Staging History in the Museum

- What is the status of historical archives in this project? Are they visible to the pulic? How are they shown?
- Why should we or should we not show archives in museums?
- What types of records are we talking about?
- What are the difficulties in showing these archives? Copies versus originals versus facsimile?
- Impact of consultation policies on selection of records for exhibitions?

* After the Exhibition: Accessing, Retrieving and Connecting Archival Material

- What is the background/history of this/these collection(s)?
- What about the consultation policy?
- Digital versus paper consultation?
- Challenges in preserving and making collections available?
