13.06.2025 Tongji-Marburg Medical Cooperation 2025

From April 28th to May 2nd Prof. Dr. Harald Renz and Dr. Cihan Beri visited the Sino-German Experimental Class of the Tongji University School of Medicine in Shanghai. During their visit, they taught classes for students in the program and so got to share their extensive expertise in clinical and laboratory medicine.
A highlight of the visit was the awarding of a Guest Professorship for the Tongji University to Prof. Dr. Harald Renz and a Lectureship to Dr. Cihan Beri. Recognizing the longstanding partnership between the Philipps-University and the Tongji as well as the teaching excellence of Dr. Renz and Dr. Beri.
Just a week later, form May 5th to 10th, the University of Marburg welcomed its Chinese Guest from the Sino-German Class, who travelled the long way from Shanghai to Marburg. During their stay the students got to spend several days at the Universitätsklinikum Gießen-Marburg (UKGM), where they rotated through various departments and got to gain first-hand insights into the workings of a German university hospital.
However, the program was not only about the academic exchange, as it was the first time in Germany for many of the Chinese students. Highlights of the week included a guided city tour of the old town and the castle, a pedal boat tour on the Lahn and a hike to the Spiegelslustturm. The week also provided a good opportunity for the Chinese and Marburg students to get to know each other and connect. In August, a summer school will take place at Tongji University in Shanghai, the counterpart to the exchange week here in Marburg.
The expanded exchange (in addition to the well-established exchange around clinical internships) is a corner-stone of fostering the Tongji-Marburg collaboration in medicine in the coming years.
