Small tutorial for international students of the Master of North-American Studies

The tutorial is aimed at international Master students of North-American Studies and offers practical support in finding your way around your studies, the department and the university. It is therefore particularly interesting for students in their first semesters. The focus is on orientation in your own study structure and academic culture in Germany, understanding relevant terms of everyday university life, confidently handling of different types of texts, typical methods as well as the acquisition of basic academic working techniques.

Our tutorial is offered by Ines Trabelsi. She is an international student of a higher semester. She will share with you her experiences and tips and tricks that have helped her through her studies. In a relaxed peer to peer atmosphere, you can ask questions and address current challenges and have the opportunity to practice some forms of study performance without pressure to perform and without assessment.

Main topics of the tutorial:

  • Navigating the MANAS program structure (modules, ECTS, workload)
  • Orientation in university portals and systems (Marvin, ILIAS...)
  • Approaching readings and seminar discussions in an English-language academic context
  • Writing seminar papers and preparing presentations (academic integrity, citations, structuring arguments)
  • Drafting professional and academic emails confidently
  • Ethical use of AI language models in academic work
