12.06.2025 New Partnership Agreement Strengthens Ties Between Marburg and UPEACE

The Center for Conflict Studies at Marburg University has renewed its partnership with the University for Peace (UPEACE) in Costa Rica, opening up expanded academic opportunities for both students and educators.
Founded by UN General Assembly Resolution 35/55 in 1980, UPEACE is the only university within the United Nations system dedicated solely to peace education. With its global community, interdisciplinary approach, and strong emphasis on practical learning and sustainable development, UPEACE has established itself as a leading institution in the field of peace and conflict studies.
Through the renewed Memorandum of Understanding, students enrolled in Marburg’s MA programmes can take courses at UPEACE and benefit from reduced tuition fees. They will also gain access to an international network of experts with extensive experience in conflict resolution. Educators from the Center are likewise invited to teach in Costa Rica, contributing to and learning from a dynamic global academic community.
The Department of Peace and Conflict Studies at UPEACE offers a unique platform for exploring the root causes of conflict and developing transformative approaches to peacebuilding in a range of contexts—from the local to the global.
Students and staff interested in this opportunity are encouraged to contact Prof. Thorsten Bonacker at the Center for Conflict Studies.
